Books I Love

I haven’t been reading a whole lot of books this summer but there are a couple I have that I’m really jazzed about. So here you go.

Filling Our Father’s House by Shaun McAfee Amazon summarizes it this way: “Converts often bring to the Catholic Church an evangelical zeal that can renew and energize even the most tired and battle weary among us. The Church is hurting for enthusiastic voices to proclaim her teachings on truth and morals. In these pages, Shaun McAfee, a convert from Evangelical Protestantism shows how we can take the best tools of evangelization and use them to reach countless souls with the fullness of the Christian Faith. With Shaun’s help, you’ll learn simple ways you can make the visitor in your parish more at home, how to speak compellingly about the Faith, simple ways to integrate daily Scripture reading into your life, why small groups are important for spiritual enrichment, and how to communicate with souls who have never considered joining the Catholic Church.” I say, it’s the best book I’ve read, maybe ever, on evangelization. And I got my degree in Catechetics from Franciscan University! Everyone needs a copy of this book and it needs to be in every college apologetics/catechetics/whatever curriculum. 513tWuzC49L._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_

Dissonance by Mariella Hunt Again let me default to Amazon for a summary: “Fifteen-year-old Allie Grant lives crippled by her illness. Though kept in isolation, she’s never alone: A spirit named Song lurks in the silence of her bedroom. When Song reveals its dark nature on the night of her recital, the show ends in tragedy. Verging on death, Allie’s taken in by an uncle she’s never met. Julian claims to be a Muse with power over music and answers that’ll heal her. It isn’t long before Allie suspects her uncle has a secret that’ll change her very identity. But with days left to live, she might fade without learning the truth…like the finishing chord of a song.” The first in a series, this book keeps you guessing and on the edge of your seat. What’s really going on with Allie? Who are these people? A great look at how art can move us or destroy us, depending on how we let it affect us. Always be prudent of the media you consume! (Not anything by me though, you’re safe here 😉 ). I will also be featuring Mariella on the blog later this month or next- so watch for that because she’s awesome!

That’s it. Two books I read this summer that I adore. Told you I didn’t have much time for reading! What are some of your favorite summer reads?
